With the injection-compression moulding, the melted material is injected into an open mould, reducing filling pressure and filling time. The final material distribution in the cavity, packing and shrinkage compensation occurs during the compression phase, performed by the moulding machine by closing the mould at last.

As a consequence the ICM technology requires less pressure and clamping force. For this reason it is also used for the moulding of plastic materials with an high percentage of long glass fibres reducing the glass fibres disruption maintaining their homogenous orientation with less deformation.
